Caecilians!
Caecilians look like worms because they have no arms or legs. Their eyes are very small. They have one lung and no ears and very sharp teeth.
My, what sharp teeth you have!
They may look soft on the outside, but inside a caecilian’s mouth are dozens of needle-sharp teeth. The teeth are used to grab worms, termites, beetle pupae, mollusks, small snakes, frogs, lizards, and even other caecilians! All food is swallowed whole. Caecilians have toxic glands in their skin that sometimes protect them from being eaten by other animals. San Diego Zoo
It lives under ground in tropical parts where it is always hot. They look like earth worms but they have a backbone and live in burrows.
Caecilians eat:
- worms.
- termites.
- beetle pupae.
- mollusks.
- small snakes.
- frogs.
- lizards.
- and even each other.
Since Caecilians have poor eyesight they have sensitive glands in their skin. They rely on them to find their way and their food.
