Apollo Space Program in LEGO
by Building Bug
Before the Apollo space program, the Mercury program sent men into space to orbit the Earth. It was successful.
Then President Kennedy wanted to go even farther and land on the moon. The Apollo space program started, because the Soviet Union would threaten us if they got there first. President Kennedy said
,
For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace. We have vowed that we shall not see space filled with weapons of mass destruction, but with instruments of knowledge and understanding.
Yet the vows of this Nation can only be fulfilled if we in this Nation are first, and, therefore, we intend to be first…We choose to go to the moon in this decade.
There were eleven missions in all, but only six landed on the moon. I made LEGO models of spacecrafts that were used to explore the the moon.
Neil Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon. He said,
Apollo 11- Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, and Michael Collins blasted to the moon in this spacecraft.
Apollo 11 Lunar Module- The spacecraft that landed three astronauts on the moon. The lunar module was attached to Apollo 11 and floated down to the moon while Apollo 11 sailed in the moon’s orbit.
Lunar Rover- The vehicle astronauts rode around the moon’s surface. It was used in later missions.
Skylab 1- A space station was the final part of the Apollo program.
The Apollo missions advanced technology which improved weapons to defend our nation. Because of the advanced technology scientists were encouraged to study God’s universe. They wanted to go even further into space, so they developed plans to make a space station. The Apollo program ended because of budget cuts and the new space station.
We can now see how amazing space is. It inspires me to love God all the more.
